Your giant handprint on Piccadilly?
YOUR chance to get your hands on a prime piece of city centre real estate happens in Manchester this weekend.
OK, perhaps that’s just a teensy bit misleading… But City Tower, at the north end of Piccadilly Gardens, is hosting an enormous public art installation and projecting images of people’s hands onto the side of the building.
A bit like futuristic finger printing or a temporary spot on Hollywood’s walk of fame, Handprint is the brainchild of Alastair Eilbeck and was inspired by the ancient practice of leaving palm prints to mark ones territory.
Alastair hopes the project will be remembered as a moment of collective experience: “Involving passers-by to place their hands on this landmark building should make participants and spectators see a familiar place differently for that moment in time,” he said.
“It should be a spontaneous decision to take part and interaction between strangers will take place where you’d least expect it.”
From December 12 at City Tower, Piccadilly Gardens until Sunday.(4pm-11pm all days). Free.
