Scary Japanese story time at the Contact
WITH the winter nights threatening to envelop us all in darkness, what better time to scare yourself witless with the odd ghost story?
But instead of just curling up on the couch with a dog eared copy of Dracula, you could make a trip along to the Contact Theatre, where Contact’s Young Actors Company, in collaboration with Dende Collective are performing Kwaidan – a set of Japanese ghost stories based on the book from Lafcadio Hern.
CYAC are an eclectic bunch, their previous shows have seen them tackle burlesque, grime, and traditional West African theatre as they constantly try to explode the boundaries of live performing.
Teaming up with Dende collective for the second time, after the runaway success of 2006’s ‘Club Piranha,’ CYAC will be hoping that Dende director, Andre Pink, who has lived and worked in Japan can use his experience to breathe fresh life into these traditional Japanese folk tales.
But after sampling an evening of supernatural stories, told using Dende’s trademark tools of shadow projections, puppetry and physical theatre, the only thing you’ll have to worry about is the walk home.
The show will run from Thursday, December 18 to Saturday, December 20, with tickets priced between £8/£5. Contact: 0161 274 0600.
