WITH Remembrance Day approaching, Imperial War Museum North is holding a series of special events to mark the 90th anniversary of the end of the First World War.

Beginning on November 8, a programme of activities and exhibits will give visitors the chance to learn about the mechanisms and impact of the war; as well as contributing their own knowledge of how it shaped the lives of their families.

November 8
BBC - 1918-2008: Ninety Years of Remembrance
Contribute to www.bbc.co.uk/remembrance.
Family Workshop: Create a poppy to add to our poppy field display (12pm-3pm, Learning Studio).
Character guide performances at 12:15pm, 1:15pm, 2:15pm and 3:15pm.

November 8 and 9
Remembrance Weekend
Themed guided tours at 11:30pm, 1:30pm and 2:30pm.
Timestack object handling sessions with discussion on how to survive trench life during the First World War.
Tips for tracing wartime history and your family's connection.

November 8 and 11
A November Day
Special theatre performance with puppet characters and live music, by Thingumajig Theatre.

November 9
Remembrance Sunday
Traditional two-minute silence at 11am, followed by a piper performance.
Songs for Remembrance by The Alteri Chamber Choir (3pm).

November 10
Why War?: A Dialogue for Remembrance
Anjum Anwar MBE and Canon Chris Chivers of Blackburn Cathedral lead a discussion.

November 11
Traditional two-minute silence at 11am.
Timestack object handling sessions on trench life (12.20pm and 3.30pm).
