AC/DC set for spring show
IT’S time to dig out that old school uniform as grizzled rock monsters AC/DC are coming to Manchester.
Famed for his shorts, blazer and school hat and tie lead guitar Angus Young and Co will pull into town on April 21 as part of their first tour in eight years.
The Sydney-formed quintet shot to global fame in 1980 when their seminal Back In Black album sold a mind-boggling 42m copies and now the Aussie legends will be hoping to go a little way to replicating that success when they take new LP, Black Ice, on the road next spring.
Highway To Hell
After forming in 1973, AC/DC began making strides overseas in 1979 when there Highway To Hell LP went top 20 in the US, sadly original singer Bon Scott (like Young, a Scottish ex-pat) died before he witnessed the success of Back In Black after a passing out in his car after a heavy night of drinking.
His replacement, Geordie Brian Johnson, went on to make the role his own and world domination followed.
AC/DC wrote most of the entries in the rulebook from ‘80s stadium rock, so expect quite a spectacle when their world tour (and ample supply of school caps) pulls into town.
AC/DC play the M.E.N. Arena on Tuesday, April 21. Tickets are £40. Call 0844 847 8000. Black Ice is released on October 20 on Columbia Records.
