White Lies are bright hope
IF you’re a fan of the doom-laden euphoria peddled by the likes of Joy Division, Interpol, The Teardrop Explodes and Editors, then White Lies should be the highlight of your week as they hit the Night & Day Cafe on Oldham Street tonight.
The surprise hit of a recent NME tour, the London band have been winning friends and fans ahead of their first headline tour proper (ably supported on the Manchester date by The Joy Formidable and Post War Years), while their single, the chirpily titled ‘Death’, has found recent favour on 6Music’s daytime playlist .
Far removed from their previous incarnation as Franz Ferdinand-styled indie posters Fear Of Flying, White Lies tread a well worn path, but luckily there are ideas aplenty and a rhythm section never short of creative flair.
Playing Manchester’s excellent Night & Day jump-off venue, it can’t be long before major commercial success beckons for the three piece. And while tickets are sold out, beg, steal or borrow to catch them now before you’re stuck on the phone struggling to get a ticket in six months time.
White Lies play Night & Day on Monday, September 22. Support from The Joy Formidable and Post War Years. Sold Out. Call 0161 236 4597 for returns.
