STOCKPORT's John Booth Wines is hosting a series of wine tasting sessions in Heaton Moor and Marple Bridge, several of which are particularly designed to highlight some lesser-known wines.

The first session (September 23) aims to introduce wine-lovers to a new array of possibilities by focusing on less-promoted varieties.

New world wineries headed by Australia and California were the first to name grape varieties in their labels, rather than the old world tradition of simply naming regions.

Unsurprisingly – as grape variety is such an important factor in taste – the idea caught on. But first to be promoted were varieties from the most famous regions.

Now, John Booth Wines would like to spread the message that many varieties who missed out on this initial promotion are nevertheless superb.
