Carbon neutral beer launched

ECOLOGICALLY-correct ale next. The Bulls Head on Manchester Road, Tyldesley is featuring East Green, Britain’s first carbon neutral cask ale, until the end of the month. The pub’s owners, Ember Inns, are the first pub group to stock this dry and refreshing beer with its  subtle citrus and grassy hop aroma.

Certainly Prince Charles and Camilla lapped up its taste and eco credentials when they visited Adnams’ eco-efficient brewery in Southwold, Suffolk.

Produced with the help of the University of East Anglia’s carbon reduction team, East Green (4% ABV) has been produced with the use of an energy recovery system that recycles 100 per cent of the steam created during the brewing process and uses it to heat 90 per cent of the following brew. The barley is from East Anglia, so reducing carbon emissions from transportation, and Boadicea Hops which are naturally aphid-resistant, reduce the need for pesticides.

It should be available soon at most Embers Inns pubs.
