Jamie scoops top chef award

JAMIE Oliver beat Rick Stein, Delia Smith and Gordon Ramsay to be named the UK's favourite celebrity chef today.

The Naked Chef clinched the title at a food awards ceremony organised by Good Housekeeping magazine.

There was better news for Delia Smith in another of the categories, however, when she was voted the person who had made the most impact on food.

Ready, Steady, Cook won the category for best TV food programme and Waitrose was named favourite supermarket.

Ceremony

The awards, presented at a ceremony in London tonight, are based on a survey of 1,000 readers of Good Housekeeping.

Lindsay Nicholson, editor-in-chief of Good Housekeeping, said: "Good Housekeeping celebrates the best of everything and we are absolutely delighted to be launching the inaugural Good Housekeeping Food Awards.

"The event commends excellent ingredients, people and places doing great things to advance the reputation - and, more importantly, the taste - of food in Britain today.

"The quality of the winners and runners up is heartening and certainly shows that Britain is no longer the culinary poor man of Europe."
