Dumisani's Dream @ Library Theatre

THE bad news is there's only today's performance to catch this enchanting co-production between Action Transport Theatre Company, from Ellesmere Port, and the Vulavulani Theatre Company, from Soweto, at the Library Theatre.

The good news is that the company are touring schools throughout the area for the next few weeks so at least some of our children will get the chance to enjoy Dumisani's Dream.

This is a charming children's story of a girl called Lucy, played by Keddy Sutton, who conjures up Dumisani, a boy from Soweto, played by charismatic Ntinti Fikekahle Dlalisa, when she plays his drum.

They are joined by a lifesize version of her doll Poppi, played by Vuyiswa Makhathini, and together they journey into a fantasy world where animals, toys and even the trees speak.

We meet hyenas who laugh at their own jokes and characters like the hare and the tortoise.

There's lots of music and a great deal of enjoyable audience participation.

Having seen at first-hand the conditions in Soweto, where this company originate, I can assure you there is even more reason why the north west should welcome this group of travelling actors.
