Festival Live

A lively lycra-clad space cadet bearing gifts of yellow Y-fronts from far away galaxies will form part of entertainment at an 11-day Commonwealth Games festival on the streets of Manchester.

The energetic Festival Live that started yesterday (Wednesday 24) is a celebration that will run for the duration of the Games and it hopes to get local people and the thousands of visitors to the city into the spirit of the event.

The streets and squares of Manchester will come alive as the festival organisers hope to ensure that the crowds do not miss any of the sporting action while they party.

Large screens will show all the sports, while street performers will provide a variety of entertainment for all age groups. A range of different musical and dance performances will also encourage revellers to get into the swing of things.

Among the many highlights will be Gifted the Space Cadet, from the Bread and Butter Theatre Company, and his spacecraft bearing gifts for the spectators.
