Bryan Adams Bryan Adams

BRYAN Adams visits town and the question on everyone’s lips the day after will be ‘did he play it?’ The answer is yes, he couldn’t resist.

He couldn’t betray his fans his greatest hit, (Everything I Do) I Do It For You, even though it must be starting to grate on him by now.

Between the rocking high points he squeezes in the ballad that cemented his place in musical history.

Eager to please and a man of the people in every sense, the first glimpse of Adams is on the big screen, being tracked on camera making his way through the gangways of the M.E.N. Arena before popping up by surprise on a stage in the middle of the venue.

The reaction of the crowd goes from stunned disbelief to mini-stampede as they rush to gather around him and, for some reason, show him their mobile phones.

Amidst a sea of lit up camera screens Adams belts out Can’t Stop This Thing We Started all on his own, just an acoustic guitar and that sandpaper voice.

Following up with the gentle Please Forgive Me, he ends the one man show to join his band for a carousing run through of Somebody before an energetic performance of 18 Til I Die.

Enthusiasm

Youth remains on his side, the years don’t seem to be anywhere near catching up with him and Back To You spreads his enthusiasm throughout the venue like wildfire.

With temperatures rising, Summer Of ’69 sees fans of all ages leap to their feet and behave like excited children.

Cuts Like A Knife keeps the greatest hits set moving before Adams searches the crowd for a local Mel C replacement for Baby When You’re Gone.

Enter Paula from Skelmersdale to offer her own interpretation, face-to-face with her hero.

With a list of hits as long as your arm, Adams could and did play for what seemed like an age but by giving the crowd what they wanted, and in Paula’s case more than she bargained for, he genuinely came across as rock’s talented Mr Nice Guy.

What did you think? Have your say.
