Madonna: Miles Away (Warner)

CityLife Rating: 3.0000 out of 5

HOW things have changed since Madonna first penned Miles Away.

The royal couple of music – Madge and Guy Ritchie – have parted, and if evidence it was on the cards were needed it’s Miles Away: a melancholic slice of Latino-pop written and produced with the assistance of the magic duo, Justin Timberlake and Timbaland.

On reflection, it sounds like Madge’s speech to the divorce courts, or more intimately one of those fights your dinner party hosts get into before spending the night whispering through gritted teeth, smiling politely and throwing meaningful glances.

Madonna herself admits that it is autobiographical, and every Hello reader out there will be nodding in acknowledgement when they hear the line, “Those three words are never enough/When it’s long distance love”.

Still, the evidence is she’s down but not out.

“When I’m gone,” she croaks in her parting shot, “you’ll realise that I’m the best thing that happened to you.”

Seconds out! Round two…
