Single Review: – Jenny Lewis: Godspeed (Rough Trade)
CityLife Rating:
FORGIVE such an adoring protestation, but Jenny Lewis possesses one of the most beautiful voices of her generation.
It’s delicate, emotional and always in perfect pitch, but Jenny is also a remarkable storyteller.
Godspeed is an open letter to a friend mired in a bad relationship and it’s a compelling love song that seethes and soothes in equal measure.
“Godspeed,” she sings, “Keep the lighthouse in sight/Godspeed to you/Put out the light and hope that you make it alive”.
It’s an odd single choice, but a truly beautiful song.
