Single Review: – Estelle: Come Over (Atlantic)
CityLife Rating:
SO, American Boy – a truly classic pop single – rocketed into every Top 10 worth being in while disco number Pretty Please (Love Me) couldn’t even crack the Top 100... what to do next, then?
The answer is try a ballad, one that’s decidedly more R&B-heavy then its predecessors, and throw in a questionable appearance from an internationally celebrated reggae artist like Sean Paul to emphasise the track’s latent dub rhythms.
In truth, though, the guest spot verges on the comical and Estelle’s performance is all a bit Lilly Allen.
And she comes dangerously close to being upstaged – for all the wrong reasons.
