Alesha Dixon: The Alesha Show (Asylum)

CityLife Rating: 3.0000 out of 5

THE mambo-style novelty song The Boy Does Nothing seems custom-written to conjure a riot of swish and shimmy in a group dance on Strictly Come Dancing.

And, cashing in on the mainstream appeal which victory in Strictly afforded her, Alesha is careful not to stray too far from a winning commercial formula of high-gloss poppy R&B.

Why else would Brian Higgins and Xenomania – hitmakers to Girls Aloud – loom so large in proceedings.

It’s a shame we don’t get a good helping of the lusty rapping which was Alesha’s thing back in the Mis-teeq days.

But this is a strong and varied collection of songs from the squeaky, bleepy hyperactive R&B of Let’s Get Excited to the silky come-hither pop of Italians Do It Better, even including a big Diane Warren power ballad in Do You Know The Way It Feels.

Best of the bunch, though, is The Boy Does Nothing – destined to be used as incidental music for every TV show about the idleness of the male of the species.
