Single Review: – The Black Keys: Same Old Thing (V2/Co-op)
CityLife Rating:
WITH their intriguing blend of blues and rock accented by hints of folk and country, The Black Keys have been engaging and challenging us for five albums.
This latest single from their re-relaunch of 'Attack and Release' exemplifies their soulful, bluesy sound.
Dan Auerbach's echoing, heartfelt vocals, a skillful mix of groove and grit, almost immediately hook the listener with the lament of "It don't matter where you been, the people try to do you in".
Steady drumlines keep a great rhythm alive, while the guitar work oozes rock 'n' roll riffs.
'Same Old Thing' is like a great, old blues-rock piece brought up to date, all the cool and soul searching of blues with modern sensibility and recording.
The re-launch of 'Attack and Release' is out now.
