Let Johnny be your Valentine
VALENTINE'S Day - an occasion of romantic union for many, but for I Am Kloot figurehead Johnny Bramwell, it's more an occasion to break away in isolation. But then, you could fairly say Johnny Bramwell and fretful isolation is a great creative partnership in itself.
Pre-I Am Kloot, Bramwell started out as a solo artist in the nineties, and when he occasionally steps back into acoustic troubadour mode, Bramwell's lyrics of bittersweet romance and drunkenness are all the more haunting and stirring for it.
Kloot fans need not worry - his band is simply on short hiatus, gearing up for the release of its fourth album Moulah Rouge later in the year, the album that (as all music journalists are contractually obligated to say) should finally elevate them from cultish Manc underdogs to bigger mainstream concerns.
As for now, there may be more conventionally romantic ways to celebrate Valentines Day with a loved one, but in the case of Johnny Bramwell at Night and Day, you certainly don't get anything as unforgettable.
Romance comes in unusual ways.
