WONDERWALL has been named the greatest song of the last ten years in a radio poll.

The Oasis track, which was beaten to the top of the charts when released in 1995 by Robson and Jerome's I Believe, came out on top in the Virgin Radio poll to celebrate their tenth anniversary.

The station put together the poll called VR10x10 by choosing the top ten tracks from their playlist for every year since their launch in April 30, 1993.

The Verve's Bittersweet Symphony came second followed by REM's Everybody Hurts.

Oasis featured again at number four with another track off the What's The Story (Morning Glory) album, Don't Look Back in Anger.

Travis completed the top five with Why Does It Always Rain On Me?

Others to feature in the top ten included Radiohead's Creep at number six and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers with By The Way at number seven.

Virgin Radio Breakfast DJ Pete Mitchell said: "There were some great songs to choose from and its no surprise that Oasis ended up with two songs in the top four.

"They are the definitive British artist of the last ten years and despite their failings they are still held close to people's hearts."
