INDIE SCALLYWAGS: Wombats

1 / 1 imagesINDIE SCALLYWAGS: Wombats

THE Manchester leg of the 2009 ShockWaves NME Awards shows will draw to a close with a set from Scouse scamps The Wombats on Tuesday.

Last year saw the likes of Babyshambles, Richard Hawley, Dizzee Rascal and The Young Knives played headline slots around the city in the run up to the award ceremony.

It was the first time the awards shows have been held outside of London, and due to their popularity, they returned with Ida Maria, Tricky and Iglu & Hartly so far taking to Academy stages.

Aptly the Liverpudlian trio, who took the city by storm on last year's NME Awards Shows tour, will round the 2009 proceedings off with a gig at Manchester Academy the night before the gongs themselves are dished out in London.

The Wombats play Academy 1 on Tuesday, February 24. £17.58. Call 0161 832 1111.
