The track, taken from the twice-reformed band's new LP, Forth, has been a big hit on the festival circuit this summer.
Britain American singer Kate Perry, snatched top slot with her debut single.
I Kissed a Girl, was penned by '90s popstar Cathy Dennis. It climbed from number four to knock Kid Rock's All Summer Long off the top spot.
Dennis said: "It's always a bit of a shock to hear you have a number one but I always felt the blend of the song and the artist was so strong we stood a good chance of having a hit."
In the album chart, Abba retained the top spot with their greatest hits CD Gold.
The Swedish quartet released the album in 1992, but have seen a huge surge in popularity thanks to the film Mamma Mia!.
