The Jewel of Chorlton
Beech Road - homespun funCHORLTON'S beloved Beech Road Summer Festival returns for it’s twelth year on Sunday, July 5.
It was only on Valentine's Day,1968 that Beech Road Park acquired its first beech trees, 50 of which were planted by the then Lord Mayor and Mayoress and a group of local school children.
Today the site, which provides a local heart for the community, plays host to the annual festival fundraiser which is expected to attract up to 10,000 people.
This year’s events include more stalls, prizes, rides & music throughout the day from noon until late, hosted by MC`s General & Trevor Syxx.

Acts include promising Manchester acoustic soul collective Maliika and Prenups Swing Band & the Mereside Brass Band performing on the Green.
All proceeds generated on the day go towards Park improvements—organisers say “funds raised over the years have provided the Park with all the play equipment, new fencing, picnic benches, bins, new drainage , notice boards and some bird boxes, the current project is to sand and paint all the fencing around the Park.”
With plenty of involvement from local traders, this year’s fun (hopefully still in the sun) will see Beech Road living up to its title as the Jewel of Chorlton.
