Comedy pals toast Mike
COMEDY writer and producer extraordinaire
Mike Craig was honoured at a special tribute dinner in Manchester - with what else, but an afternoon of laughter.
Mike, who has worked with the biggest names in comedy during his career, including
Morecambe and Wise,
Ken Dodd,
Jimmy Tarbuck and
Des O'Connor, was honoured for his outstanding contribution to the world of comedy by showbiz charity The Variety Club.
And he was joined by a host of his showbiz pals from through the years, including Last Of The Summer Wine legend
Kathy Staff, magician
Paul Daniels and wife
Debbie McGee and comics
Bernie Clifton,
Jimmy Cricket and
Johnnie Casson at the Palace Hotel bash.
Paul Daniels joked: "What can you say about Mike that he hasn't already told you?"
He continued: "In our business they tend to praise the people who are on the screen, and the writers get very little credit. But if it wasn't for Mike, the likes of me wouldn't be where we are."
Continuing the tributes, BBC producer Stephen Garner said: "What Mike doesn't know about comedy isn't worth knowing."
