Frank Sidebottom/John Cooper Clarke headline Salford Festival of Musical Comedy
US Brits seem to have a penchant for the comedy song - after all, we're the nation that spawned George Formby.
And with comic genius Bill Bailey re-inventing the genre live on stage, Salford's first festival of musical comedy couldn't have come at a better time.
Salford's two-day celebration kicks off on July 31 at the Lowry Quays Theatre with a performance from Northern insitution and original Manc funnyman Frank "Cartoon Head" Sidebottom, supported by Salford lads The Thingumabobs and special guest Aidan Smith.
August 1 sees Salford star John Cooper Clarke return to his roots to showcase the poetry and comic anecdotes that got him gigs supporting legendary post-punks The Fall.
Musician-cum-actor CP Lee and his new backing band, the Salford Sheiks, will make up the bill alongside local singer/songwriter Gideon Conn.
Tickets for the performance on July 31 cost £7.50/£12.50/£14.50 and for August 1 £11.50/£16.50/£17.50. To book, contact the Lowry Box Office on 0870 428 0785 or visit the Ticketline website www.ticketline.co.uk.
