Ricky Gervais: Science

Award-winning comedy superstar Ricky Gervais tackles the subject of 'science' in his latest stand-up show. In his usual ironic and ranty style, Gervais deconstructs the story of Noah's Ark, ponders on the religious Right's persecution of gay people, and questions Amanda Holden's qualifications for judging 'Britain's Got Talent'.

THERE really is no way of proving it, but I’ve a sneaking suspicion that the girl manning the busy merchandise stand might have been told to wear her ‘I heart Ricky Gervais’ T-shirt by a higher authority.more

I went to see Science on Thursday (not sure why that's relevant it's the same every night). I agree with some of what the main reviewer said-the Amanda Holden joke was too long and laboured and ended up not being that funny. He only loosely sticks to the theme and it probably wasn't as good as his previous shows. But he is still enormously funny overall. I've seen Macintyre, Izzard and this in recent weeks and this was the funniest. He doesn't care about political correctness which is refreshing and the usual suspects get mocked-fat people, cripples, people who resemble terrorists. There's a few times I didn't get the joke-raping old ladies isn't funny, neither is molesting young girls-the dinner party joke with the dubious punch line (the people sitting near me didn't laugh at these either) but he did say at the start this was a warm up tour so maybe those jokes won't make it to the final show. I heard a few people grumbling on the way out it was too short at just over an hour-but probably better that than too long or not funny. As a big fan of most of Ricky Gervais' comedy I enjoyed it but it is not his finest hour.
