Eddie Izzard: Stripped

Following a sell-out US tour, Eddie Izzard returns to the UK with a brand new stand-up show. Emphasising his issues with topics as varied as religion and Wikipedia, Izzard delivers in his usual surreal and improvisational manner.

CityLife review

HAD Eddie Izzard not opted for a life on stage weaving weird and wonderful tales of human progress into curious narratives about banjo playing badgers and jam, he would surely have been the greatest children’s storyteller ever born.more

Let me first say, I love Eddie, the man is an absolute genius. I have all his DVDs.

But the City Life review was not wholly on the money I feel. This was a good show, but by no means an Eddie classic.

Some sketches were padded out way too long. For example the jazz chicken was genius, so to the diary writing octopus. But these characters were referred to dozens of time through the show, as if he needed to return to them for the laugh.

The ending was odd as well; the moon landing bit which when he came out and announced it I sat back looking forward to it after all the end/encire is usally when the classic coup de grace is delivered. Remember Death Star Canteen and the Star Trek (phasers, widdly wee) all were delivered at the end of the show.

This one though was short and really didnt get going, save to bring in again the jazz chicken et al.

Me teenage daughter summed it up and she also is an Eddie fan; she said she laughed, but wasnt bent double in stitches like usual.

However Eddie will return, he is a comedy god!
