Really buzzing - Gerard Jenkins-Omar

TWENTY three year old Manchester scribe Gerard Jenkins-Omar presents the ‘Buzz of the Modern Bee’, a look at "the soul of a Noughties Manchester".

Omar’s exhibition at the Urbis, is an innovative, poetic view of our city of rain charting its aesthetic transformations, vibrant communities and event highlights across the last decade.

Using verse to instantly captivate passers-by and those visiting the Urbis, Omar considers the ‘worker bee’ a symbolic image of Manchester’s industrial past and the hardworking city-dweller’s of today.

The exhibition title ‘Buzz of the Modern Bee’ uses this symbol and looks at the hive modern Bees find themselves buzzing around in.

Overall, the pieces celebrate a decade of success for the city, whilst keeping some timely reminders at the fore. There are seven pieces of work; four that can be viewed upon the Urbis windows from Cathedral gardens and three that can be seen from inside the Urbis Café.

This event is part of the Not Part Of Festival 2009.
