Green Day reveal M.E.N. Arena double
WITH the figure of their 2004 ire now deposed, Green Day will end their five-year recording hiatus when they release the long-awaited follow-up to American Idiot on May 15.
Entitled 21st Century Breakdown, the veteran rock trio’s eighth album will have to shift some to match its predecessor too – after American Idiot sold 12m copies and won two Grammys.
With legendary producer Butch Vig (Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins) drafted in, the album is divided into three acts – ‘Heroes and Cons’, ‘Charlatans and Saints’ and ‘Horseshoes and Handgrenades’ – and follows a young couple, Christian and Gloria, through the mess and promise of the century so far.
Firebrand frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and the boys will bring the record to Manchester for two hot ticket dates in October.
Green Day play the M.E.N. Arena on Friday and Saturday, October 30 and 31. £35. Call 0844 847 8000.
