New house masters gear up for Sankeys marathon
THERE’S a busy weekend ahead at Sankeys.
Not only does the club welcome the arrival of techno institution Colour tonight (October 30), with sets from Chris Liebing and Surgeon, but tomorrow night’s ’Alloween III party (October 31) sees a mammoth six-hour set from up and coming house tykes the Martinez Brothers.
“It means a lot to be able to play at Sankeys,” says soulful sibling Steve.
“Whenever we go to a place that has a strong history and reputation for dance music, we always feel honoured. It’s going to be really dope to play in Manchester again.”
The New York duo’s epic appearance comes at the request of Sankeys supremo Dave Vincent, who was wowed by their set during the club’s 15th anniversary celebrations.
Enviable reputation
“It’s really refreshing to see two young guys playing the kind of music they do,” says Vincent.
“They follow a very classic house tradition and can work a crowd brilliantly.
“I think they could be the new Masters At Work.”
Steve and brother Chris have built up an enviable reputation during their short career, which, despite being barely out of their teens, has seen them handpicked for mentorship by Objektivity main man Dennis Ferrer (“a great honour and a blessing,” says Steve) and gain admiration for their varied sets.
This is one duo definitely worth watching.
